Animal Competition

Lesson Overview

This lesson follows the 5E model of instruction containing five phases of learning (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate). It provides a carefully planned sequence of instruction that places students at the center of learning. It encourages all students to explore, construct understanding of scientific concepts, and relate those understandings to phenomena or engineering problems.

During this STEAM lesson for Grade 3, students will gain understanding of animals that coexist in the same habitat, competition for food and the impact this has on survival. Students will integrate and exhibit learning by creating a system that facilitates a game to simulate the race to gather food and survive against and with the help of other animals.
